OS | Please fix the iPhone

Give us iChat! Complete with threaded text discussions like iChat for the Mac. Make it run in the background so that we can be logged into IM all the time and receive instant messages when our phone is asleep. Give us ringtone and vibration settings to alert us of new IMs. Make it work with the Jabber, AIM accounts that we use with iChat on the Mac. For bonus points add support for MSN and Yahoo.

PLEASE change the auto-suggestion feature which suggests words as you type so that it ONLY uses the suggested word when I CLICK-TO-ACCEPT it. It is infuriating and arrogant of you to assume that you know what I want to type unless I click-to-reject. I am CONSTANTLY going back and retyping words because they were overwritten with the iPhone's mistakes.

I want a way to return to an app that has sent me to a new app. For example, if I click on a link in some app, and it opens Google Maps, then to get back to the original app is a pain. I have to click the Home button and restart that original app. Apps should stay open until I explicitly close them.

Support for BlueTooth Keyboards. There are times when I am doing too much typing for any cellphone built in keyboard and being able to use a pocket bluetooth keyboard would be handy.

The Bluetooth restrictions to be lifted, why can't we bluetooth pictures? why can't my iphone connect to my blueme in my car properly???? i think the iphone should do less better, and then you can add 3rd party app's to do the things you really want.

Arranging Apps. Moving an application from 1st Screen to the 4th Screen is a pain, you’ve to drag it across all the screens in between. The lag. If I make the mistake of going into the email app, or that was the last app that was open, and I go into send a quick SMS, the lag is horrendous until the phone is finished mucking about with email. The phone should give massive priority to the foreground app.

The interface is so, so, so, slow! In the commercials it always works at lightning speed, in reality I have to wait 6 seconds to open the camera application. Fix it!

As a user, I expect the UI to behave in the same way across (at least) all native iPhone applications, so that in true Apple style, once I am used to a certain UI behaviour, it is consistent throughout my device. eg. the landscape keyboard, the .com key, accelerometer-driven screen rotation.

Disk mode, like iPods used to have. There should be an option to enable/disable so that the iPhone will act like a USB disk when plugged into any computer, to store whatever kind of data you want on it.

Please, I want to have full Bluetooth functionality!! I want to be able to receive songs, pics and stuff from other phones via bluetooth, and viceversa. Cheaper and crapier phones allow me to browse the contents of other bluetooth enabled phones; allow me to control my PowerPoint presentation with my phone via bluetooth, etc.

Optimize your OS for click efficiency! There are too many clicks (taps) required to do just about everything. You sacrifice usability by breaking simple things out into multiple pages/screens just so you can have large icons and pretty controls. For example, I'm sorry, but the roller-spinner control to set a calendar event time is just STUPID.

Add multitasking. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue, even though a big issue, but you can do it for sure. Allow apps to run simultaneously.

Make it so I can turn off the EDGE network and be on 3G or nothing at all. When driving with my iPhone hooked up playing music, the EDGE network sometimes kicks in, making that very loud yeeebeep beep beep beep sound through the speakers that ruins the music.

Please add a global option to disable the portrait/landscape transitions. It's difficult to use apps that switch to landscape when you're lying down. Also, it gets very confused in zero-G.
