Give us iChat! Complete with threaded text discussions like iChat for the Mac. Make it run in the background so that we can be logged into IM all the time and receive instant messages when our phone is asleep. Give us ringtone and vibration settings to alert us of new IMs. Make it work with the Jabber, AIM accounts that we use with iChat on the Mac. For bonus points add support for MSN and Yahoo.

I want a way to return to an app that has sent me to a new app. For example, if I click on a link in some app, and it opens Google Maps, then to get back to the original app is a pain. I have to click the Home button and restart that original app. Apps should stay open until I explicitly close them.

Allow the connection of a keyboard - bluetooth, hard connection, doesn't matter, just something. A USB to iPhone adapter would be incredible, my roll up keyboard would would great. The telnet, ssh and network utility applications and a keyboard would make this an incredible little portable computer, but editing files with the onscreen keyboard is near impossible.

No ability to get IM notifications via a background service.... this is the kind of thing you promised - and IM would be a great thing to see integrated throughout the iPhone OS. \ \ The 3rd party IM apps are OK, but it is unreasonable to ask someone to run an application all the time just to be logged into their IM accounts like MSN, Yahoo etc.

An Instant Messaging client.... and make one that sits at the same level as the Blackberry Messenger..... were you can send not only text but also pictures, videos, voice recording and even files.....Of course make it a background running always on application. Road Mode! When I drive I want to be able to see: 1. The name of the song etc. in a size I can actually read. 2. Privacy please! With the App Store now comes a lot of iPhone "sharing" - "hey, friend, play this game!". I should be able to prevent SMS messages from popping up while I'm in an application! Disabling SMS preview is a start, but that's irrelevant if my phone is unlocked and in my friend's hand.

With all the apps being downloaded, things get a bit cluttered. The current set up is appreciated for minor arranging, but it's time consuming and clunky. How about functionality in iTunes to rearrange your icons? Bonus points for Stacks-like functionality or something similar.

I have a music transmitter that allows me listen to my iphone in my car. When I am listening music everything else works, check email, text message, etc. Why can I not talk on speaker phone while connected to the device, have the sound go through my speakers in my car.

iPhone has same problems as lot of their competitors. Why not Apple join the Symbian, Android and Palm community and let developers work across to create multiple cross platform applications. Make apps display live info. Weather app should show current temp on home screen. stocks app could work with this as well as clock app, although the clock would be pointless, still pretty cool. The calender app is kind of an example of this.

Mac has so many capabilities that all of the users here Complained about. Why not make more portability available to phone same as the Operating System in the past 5 years. Majority of the complains here are relating to the functionality which MAC/Apple has solved in past 5 years. Make the developers work from OS team and Phone team. When im using an app and i get a text or a call i cant ignore, the app wont load back up automatically. They need something that keeps it running until you close out. I was thinking something like a spaces program. i understand that the home screen is like this, but im thinking something like the interned does when your switching through multiple pages.

As a user, I expect the UI to behave in the same way across (at least) all native iPhone applications, so that in true Apple style, once I am used to a certain UI behaviour, it is consistent throughout my device. eg. the landscape keyboard, the .com key, accelerometer-driven screen rotation.

I wish I could get voice-guided directions through Maps! The GPS directions are almost perfect, and not having to watch the screen would be so much easier. I already have my audio through my phone, so why not get directions on top of it? Bonus points for some celebrity voices.

No voice recorder. Sure there are a bunch of third-party ones but there should be one shipped by Apple. Need one to jot those ideas as they come. Better still if it does text-to-speech and speech-to-text and integrated with email.

Add multitasking. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue, even though a big issue, but you can do it for sure. Allow apps to run simultaneously.

Make the iPhone run applications in the background. I want a GPS tracker that can track me regardless of what I'm running. Background applications will make the phone do so much more.

When listening to songs in shuffle mode, I often stumble across something I haven't heard for ages. It would be great to have a 'additional options' shortcut (like new nano) where I can browse artist/album and/or simply play only this artist/album.

Check all IMAP email folders for new messages - not just inbox. My messages are filtered at the server and so currently I have to go into every folder to see if there are new messages in it! This is really annoying and takes ages. I should at least be able to choose which folders it checks for new mail as I can in Thunderbird.

Why you did not a app recording telephone calls (incoming, outcoming,and notes) synchronize with PC or move record´s to Pc? In phone conversations have addresses, phone numbers, schedules meetings, etc, then it's just listening without having to write down the time, others SO's have: Callrec(Palm), VITO AudioNotes (Symbian and Windows Mobile), Ultimate Voice Record(Symbian) BlackBarry(mVoice)

Global SEARCH, ala Spotlight, that works across Notes, Contacts, SMS, etc., along with REPLACE. (The old Palm used to have this type of search, and it was rather useful.)

Please fix that when you update your progs via AppStore the icons of the programs updated relocates to the first home screen (if its still room). I want them to stay put where I placed them in the first place..

I am tired of having to organize my apps or having blank spaces on pages when I delete and app. Why can't I set them to always be on a certain page? They don't have to be in exactly the same spot, but the same page would be nice. Maybe there is a way to set that in iTunes?
